Whereas the German contribution by Alan Hilario, titled Schöner Götterfunken! Bilder einer Ausstellung einer Ausstellung (Beautiful divine spark! Pictures of an exhibition of an exhibition), is an impressive effort to come to terms with the way the oh-so-civilized master races dealt with colonized (more correctly, enslaved) countries, (…) the English contribution, Hearing Voices, was a highly witty attempt to make a voice visible (…).
The most musically rewarding contributions were those from Amsterdam (Garden of Dreams) and Florence (Il segno): the Dutch work was dominated by a dreamy solo oboe that added an aspect of profound loss to this piece about two people who are urgently dependent on each other.
The most withdrawn work was the one from Italy, which confronted a woman overcoming great resistance to move just a few meters with the sounds of a saxophone. This piece made a particularly strong impression on me.
