KOERPER-SPRACHE ODER: DIE ILLUSION VOM TÖTEN

Press Reviews of the Forum Atelier on November 13, 2005

back    Part of the aesthetic conception of the performance Körper-Sprache oder: Die Illusion vom Töten (Body-Language; or, The illusion of killing) by Holger Gothart Herrmann and the Trans-Media-Akademie Hellerau is that the dancers create with their movements both visual projections on a screen and electronic sounds.
They are based on various visual symbols of death and on “granulated” language and original sounds from a Mozart aria that are increasingly broken up and distorted in the course of the improvised process to create new mixtures of sound. The virtual synesthesia of movements, images, and sounds is produced by the dancer Yvonne Bahn's interaction with camera-controlled computers that record and processes her movements in real time.
The result is a thoroughly fascinating (…) expressive unity with coolly lyrical and agitatedly threatening sounds that seem to come from distant worlds and whose acoustic power and color (…) make for a persuasive experiment.
This interactive “play” received a great deal of applause when presented at the Forum Neues Musiktheater as a work in progress; its final version will be premiered at the Cynetart-Festival in Dresden on November 25.
