Dramaturge

Born in 1973, he studied music theory, new media, and composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart under Matthias Hermann, Helmut Lachenmann, and Marco Stroppa. After completing his studies he taught analysis of New Music and harmony and counterpoint there. At the same time he was working primarily in interdisciplinary areas, for example, with the sculptor Matthias Kunisch and the architects Peter Ippolito and Elke Banabak. From 2002 till 2006 Jens Schroth was active in dramaturgy at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. He was responsible as dramaturge or co-dramaturge for, among other things, opera productions by Andrea Breth, Christof Nel, Nigel Lowery, and Manfred Weiß and ballet productions by Hans Kresnik, Christian Spuck, and Nina Kurzeja. Simplicius Simplicissimus traveled from the Staatsoper Stuttgart for a guest performance at Bayerische Staatsoper. Since 2006 Jens Schroth is Dramaturge at the Oper unter den Linden, Berlin. In 2004 he participated in Last Desire at the Forum Neues Musiktheater.
