Conductor

Born in Greece. Studied music in Tel Aviv and then became a repetiteur at the Wiener Staatsoper and Wiener Volksoper. Assistant to Sir Georg Solti and Christoph von Dohnanyi. Conductor at the Ulmer Theater (1992–94) and the Staatstheater in Saarbrücken (1994–2000). From 2000–2003 he was acting general music director and principal conductor at the Freiburg Theater. Since 2003 he has been a professor of conducting at the opera school of the Universität der Künste in Berlin. In addition to opera, he is especially devoted to the cause of contemporary music. As a conductor, he has worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Graz and Freiburger Philharmonic Orchestras, the Staatstheater in Mannheim und Nürnberg, the Rundfunksinfonieorchester Saarbrücken, the Athens Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the SWR, and the 3SAT, as well as with ensemble recherche, Klangforum Wien, and Ensemble PanArte. In 2004 Voyeur by Jörg Mainka at Forum Neues Musiktheater.
