Ed Hughes is a composer and lecturer in the music department of the University of Sussex. In recent years he has had works commissioned by the Brighton Festival, the City of London Festival, the Arts Council of England, and the Sydney and Salamanca festivals. He has written a number of works for films, including Eisenstein’s Battleship Potemkin, Ozu’s I Was Born, But . . . , Mitry’s Pacific 231. Currently he is composing a work for Eisenstein’s Strike! that will premiere in 2007 at the Barbican Centre in London. In 2006 he composed Hearing Voices for the NewMediaPocketOpera project at the Forum Neues Musiktheater on the occasion of the ISCM World New Music Festival 2006.
