  Gianni Dessi
Painter, Stage Designer

Gianni Dessi completed his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma and during the 1970s was decisively influenced by the avant-garde theater scene. In 1978 he had his first exhibition and since that time he has shown regularly at the most important galleries in Europe and the United States. He was invited to international exhibitions such as the Biennale di Venezia as well as others in Paris and São Paulo. He has also been invited to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and to Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Helsinki. In 2002 Gianni Dessi designed the stages for Parsifal (director: Peter Stein, conductor: Claudio Abbado) at the Salzburg Easter Festival. In 2004 he designed the stages for Petrassi’s Il cordovano (director: Stefani Vizioli, conductor: Marcello Panni) at the opera in Rome. His most recent exhibition was on view at the Museo d’Arte Contemporaneo in Rome (MACRO). In 2006 Dessi designed the stage and video for Il cielo sulla terra at Forum Neues Musiktheater.
