Tempo Reale Firenze (Realtime Florence) in cooperation with 35° Festival Santarcangelo dei Teatri
Osso’s’ central thematic concern is the mutual mirroring between generations, acting as a kind of reciprocal echoing, taking influence on each other. For instance, the son’s movements meld and combine with those of his father.
Francesco Giomi - by means of the employed technology for the adaptation and conditioning of vocal material - succeeds in transforming a conversation between father and son into a sequence of sounds and tones.
For the spectator the story line appears like a viable instrument suitable to enable him to immerge into his own, personal memories.
Tempo Reale_Incontri Musicali from Florence, the largest electronical studio in Italy and enjoying a long tradition, was founded and headed until his death by the legendary Luciano Berio, one of the most significant and eminent Italian contemporary composer. Amongst others, Tempo Reale_Incontri Musicali, Florence, has been internationally represented with projects at the Salzburg Festival as well as in the Italian pavillion at the World Exposition 2000 in Hannover, Germany.
The Virgilio Sieni Danza Company & Tempo Reale, Florence, are now further developing their current project Osso at the Forum Neues Musiktheater of the Staatsoper Stuttgart, presenting their work result to the general public within the scope of a studio evening.
Following the performance the artists will relate to the audience about their work and stand at the spectators disposal for questions and answers.
Vis-à-vis other episodes, Osso is also featuring Fosco Sieni, the choreographer’s father.
This aforementioned mirroring of generations becomes revealed through the “echo” that combines the son’s and the father’s movements and motions, through the appearance of references and hints coming out of a private archive: sweet pastries passed on from hand to hand.
Within this “bleb of time” – the one of calmness, adjournment and Epiphany – childhood turns into a state of transcendency. The occult “Father-Land” is evoked emotionally and cleaved inside this fragment.
The action becomes an instrument, a “tool” which allows the spectator to indulge in his own memories. A dreamy well-being, where concreteness and immateriality conjoin in a natural and self-evident structure of resonances trailing away in a clear perspective.
All at once, the apparent strangeness of the elementary and inscrutable actions spread out unto a glade in which notional conception and experience are left to be a thing of it’s own, where human expression reveals it’s own limitations and biographies become a collective mystery.
But the mystery is necessarily traversed by the game-playing so that the ‚Time of the Holy’ may “dissolve” itself in the ‚Time of the Human’ , whereupon a smile comes to surface and magical and primordially human echoes resound behind it.
Both the human voice and it’s origin - the body – then give shape to the archaic sonority, unseizable to intellectual i(n)sulation.
Consequently - and due to the hidden technology focalised by Francesco Giomi - a conversation between father and son transmute into a chain of sinister and gloomy sounds, maybe determined to be deciphered and unlocked on a distant and remote planet.
